Lincoln Hospital received a 5-Star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), making it one of only three hospitals in Eastern Washington and one of only 400 in the nation to boast the sought-after rating. The other three Eastern Washington hospitals include Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, and Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.

The rating is based on results from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey that is sent out to each patient after a hospital stay or ER visit. Patients are asked a number of questions assessing facility cleanliness, provider communication, quiet environment, and patient recommendations.

“We are grateful for the patients who took time to fill out the surveys,” said Jennifer Larmer, Chief Clinical Officer for Lincoln Hospital. “It not only provides valuable information to CMS, it lets us know what we are doing right and what we need to improve on.”

In order for positive feedback to count, the patient has to respond to questions with “Always” on a scale of “Never, Sometimes, Always” or a 9/10 on a scale of 1-10. “In healthcare, “sometimes” isn’t enough,” Larmer said. “We strive to always provide high quality, personalized care in a healing environment.”
