Want to get in shape?
What tools do you need? Walking across country is hard work and to help you reach your fitness goal, Lincoln Hospital will provide participants with a packet of information that includes…
Who can join? Anyone! Whether you walk in a group or alone, at work or at home, you can be a part of “Healthy for Life.” There are no age or location restrictions. We do recommend you check with your healthcare provider prior to starting any physical activity program, and those with chronic medical conditions should get a physician’s written prescription to take part. How do I get on a team? There are several ways to take part in “Healthy for Life.” You can form your own team with neighbors, friends, family members or co-workers. If you live in the country or walk by yourself, you can pick a partner (or we can provide one/many) that you can pool your miles with. E-mail or call each other for encouragement and updates and give monthly mileage to your HFL coordinator.
Remember, whether you’re in a team of two or
ten, it’s your combined mileage that How do I track mileage? All club members will need a pedometer. If you don’t already have one, just ask. Lincoln Hospital will provide a chart to help you convert your steps into miles and a map to help you log your and/or your team’s progress “across country.” At the end of each month, drop your mileage sheet off at Lincoln Hospital for HFL Coordinator Kyp Shillam. She’ll log your individual and team progress and keep you updated via postcard, phone or e-mail. Her phone number is (509) 725-7101 ext. 139. Where do I walk? Anywhere. Whether you live in town or the country, you can walk! Just keep track of your steps/mileage. As for bad weather, HFL has coordinated with the local schools for indoor walking times. Gyms at many schools will be open in the early morning, and after class hours when gyms are busy, most schools are offering their halls as a “track” for walkers. Routes and mileage for each school are listed in member packets. Times and facilities are dependent on each school’s schedule, so contact coordinator Kyp Shillam for the scoop on the facility nearest you. What does it cost? Nothing! Nada! Zip! The “Healthy for Life Walking Club” is a free service of Lincoln Hospital & North Basin Medical Services — your “Neighbors for Life.” Route 66 Walking Tour from Chicago to LA!!
